Psalm 8

I.The excellence of the name of the Lord (vs1)

     excellent = Great, majestic

          Ex 15:10; Judges 5:25; 1Sam 4:8

          Several times in Scripture it is seen as the word noble/s

          name of the LORD / Lord

     LORD = the proper name of the one true God

                = the self existent one. - the creator, not created one

     Lord = firm one, concerning men master of the house, concerning Christ, - king

              above the heavens

II.The exposure of the place of man (vs 2-6)

     A. Conquest (vs 2) cf Mt 21:12-17

     B. Consideration (vs 3) ordained = established

     C. Condition (vs 4)

          mindful = call to remembrance

          visitest = attend to, care for, punish

     D. Crowning (vs 5)

          bestowed upon –

          1.made in the image of God (Gen 1:26)

          2.made for the use of God

     E. Control (vs 6)

           Dominion = rule

           under his feet = authority, victory

           1Cor 6:3 – ye shall judge angels

           Heb 2:6-8 / 1Cor 15:27 – fulfillment is only fully realized in the millennial kingdom.

           Is 11:1-8 / Rev 19:14 /

           Psalm 103:19 The LORD hath prepared his throne in the heavens; and his kingdom ruleth over all.

III.The examination of God's creation (vs 7-8)

      Understanding God's dominion over creation is the realization of a stewardship unto God!

Ps 50:7 ¶ Hear, O my people, and I will speak; O Israel, and I will testify against thee: I am God, even thy God. 8 I will not reprove thee for thy sacrifices or thy burnt offerings, to have been continually before me. 9 I will take no bullock out of thy house, nor he goats out of thy folds. 10 For every beast of the forest is mine, and the cattle upon a thousand hills. 11 I know all the fowls of the mountains: and the wild beasts of the field are mine. 12 If I were hungry, I would not tell thee: for the world is mine, and the fulness thereof. 13 Will I eat the flesh of bulls, or drink the blood of goats? 14 Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: 15 And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.

Mt 6:26 Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 27 Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? 28 And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: 29 And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. 30 Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith?
