Psalm 11

Psalm 11 – A Psalm of David

I. His Declaration –(vs 1)

Trust – Ruth 2:12 / 2Sam 22:31 / 24 xs in Psalms / Pro 30:5

Isaiah 57:13

II. His Question – (vs 1)

Soul – This was not just physical preservation this was spiritual. (2Sam 26:19)

Your Mountain – Man has the capacity to rely in himself and other avenues of help rather than God! Will you flee to your mountain? Or will you run to God?

Ps 18:2 The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower.

Psalm 125:2 As the mountains are round about Jerusalem, so the LORD is round about his people from henceforth even for ever.

III. His Position – (vs 2)

The Righteous have enemies!

Abel had his Cain

Joseph had his brethren

Joshua & Caleb had their evil spies

Hannah had Peninnah

David had his Saul

Solomon had his Adonijah

Elijah had his Jezebel

Nehemiah had his Sanballat & Tobiah

Job had his wife

Jeremiah had his Jehoiakim

Daniel had his captive brethren

John the Baptist had his Herodious

Jesus had his Pharisees

The disciples had their persecutors

Paul had his Judaizers

Timothy had his despisers

You will have your enemies!
Ps 34:11 ¶ Come, ye children, hearken unto me: I will teach you the fear of the LORD. 12 What man is he that desireth life, and loveth many days, that he may see good? 13 Keep thy tongue from evil, and thy lips from speaking guile. 14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. 15 The eyes of the LORD are upon the righteous, and his ears are open unto their cry. 16 The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. 17 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18 The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. 19 Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. 20 He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. 21 Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate. 22 The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.

IV. His Foundation – (vs 3-7) - God

     A. The Lord's Place (vs 4) He is Sovereign! He is in control.

          Isaiah 6 / Isaiah 57:15

     B. The Lord's Patience (vs 4-5)

Try -test, prove, as gold is refined

The only way one becomes more pleasing to the Lord is to be more righteous, more like     Christ. Therefore the Lord tries us.

Job 23:10 But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold

James speaks of the trying of your faith.

           Peter talks of this.

1Pe 4:12 ¶ Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though       some strange thing happened unto you; 13 But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ's sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy.
     C. The Lord's Punishment (vs 6)

           Isaiah 13

     D. The Lord's Passion (vs 7) - Righteousness

Pr 15:9 ¶ The way of the wicked is an abomination unto the LORD: but he loveth him that followeth after righteousness.
