Psalm 7

I.The Circumstances of the Psalm - ???????????????

     A. The Term - Shiggaion

Many are uncertain, was Shiggaion a musical term? Only other associated word is in Hab 3:1 "upon Shigionoth.  Some see it as identified with the idea of a wondering or variable psalm, where the music would demonstrate the emotion/path of the psalm writer.

     B. The Person – Cush the Benjamite

This is the only time he is mentioned in the Bible. The word Cush is mentioned in the scriptures 27 times. It is translated Ethiopia 19 times and 8 times is the name of the son of Ham the grandson of Noah.

     C. The Situation - Concerning the words of Cush.

False accusation of David – (vs 3-4)   All of these things are somewhat obscure to the reader. God      would have us all perceive the lesson more than the history!

II.The Contents of the Psalm

     A. A Persecuted Saint(vs 1-5)

          1. Persecuted by many (vs 1)

          2. Persecuted harshly (vs 2)

          3. Persecuted falsely (vs 3-5)

Ps 119:161 ¶ Princes have persecuted me without a cause: but my heart standeth in awe of thy word.
1Th 2:15 Who both killed the Lord Jesus, and their own prophets, and have persecuted us; and they please not God, and are contrary to all men:
1Co 4:12 And labour, working with our own hands: being reviled, we bless; being persecuted, we suffer it:
Mt 9:5-12
2Ti 3:12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.
Rom 8:35

     B. A Patient Saint(vs 6-16)    Long suffering – Gal 5:22-23 / Col 1:9-13 / Col 3:12

         1. The Lord's anger is timed correctly (vs 6-7)

         2. The Lord's judgment is timed correctly (vs 8-9)

         3. The Lord's longsuffering is timed correctly (vs 10-16) see vs 12- if he turn not.

Some day David, you will be glad that God is long suffering! You will commit adultery with Bathsheba, and kill her husband Uriah (one more righteous than you) to cover up your sin. You will cause the sword to never depart from your house, Yes you will be glad for the longsuffering of our God.

Christian, before you get angry with God because of his failure to act on your behalf, remember that it is the same long suffering of God that waited for you to be saved, and waits for you to get right with him, that waits for the one that is persecuting you unjustly to get right!

Acts 22:3-10 / 1Tim 1:16
     C. A Praising Saint (vs 17)

Having a right view of God coupled with a trust in God allows you to have joy and praise in the midst of unwanted circumstances.
