Psalm 12

Psalm 12 – HELP LORD


I.The Prevailing of the Wicked (vs 1-4)

     A. The Failing of the Righteous (vs 1)

          Godly = the saint, the holy, the pious

          Cease = come to an end, to be no more

          Faithful = established, pillars

          Fail = disappear, vanish

          Isaiah 57:1, Rom 8:36 , Heb 11:32-40, Rev 6:9-11

     B. The Flattering of the Wicked (vs2)

          flattering = smooth words

          Gen 27:16 – smooth

          Pro 6:24 – flattery of the strange woman

          Proverbs 26:28 A lying tongue hateth those that are afflicted by it; and a flattering mouth worketh ruin.

          Psalm 55:21

     C. The Future of the Wicked (vs 3)

          cut off = kill

          Rev 19:11-16

     D. The Focus of the Wicked (vs 4)

          Pride = who is lord over us? 

               Our lips are our own .

               With our tongue we will prevail

II.The Pronouncement of the LORD (vs 5)

* Think of God moving to the aid of his people! The God of Heaven! Creator of the Universe! The Eternal God.

     A. The Cause

          1.Oppression of the poor – havoc, violence, destruction

          2.sighing of the needy – crying, groaning, lamentation

     B. The Cure

          1.I will arise

          2. I will set him in safety.

III.The Purity of God's Word (vs 6)  This verse in context is in relationship to his pronouncement in verse 5.

     Pure = clean, without taint, no lies or error mixed in.  (this is in contrast to the flattering lips of the wicked  in verse 3!)

     purified = distilled, strained, refined – 7 perfection

     Pro 30:5 – Every Word of God is pure, he is a shield who put their trust in him.

IV.The Preservation of God's Word (vs 7)

     verse 5 is not just promised to the people of God in that generation, but to the righteous in all generations!

     1. The righteous of today

     2. The righteous of tomorrow. - 1Kings 8:54-61

     Heb 10:23 Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)

V. The Prevention of Wickedness (8)

     The reason why the wicked walk on every side is because of the vilest men being exalted.
