Psalm 15

The Question and answer Psalm

I. Question: Who shall abide who shall dwell?

This is a question of relationship with the Lord. The Lord manifested his presence to his people at the ark of the Covenenant which was in the tabernacle. David had a tent made for the ark when he was established in the city of David. His holy hill Mt. Zion. Who can abide there? Who can have a relationship with the Holy One of Israel?

II. Answer: The righteous

     A. Truth

          1. He that walketh uprightly, uprightly = in accord with truth

          2. He that worketh righteousness, = commits right works

          3. He that speaketh the truth in his heart. = declares and confirms truth in the inner man

You can determine your true character by seening what you do when no one is looking. What you speak in your heart is what you realy are! "As a man thinketh in his heart so is he."

Pro 23:23 Buy the truth, and sell it not; also wisdom, and instruction, and understanding.

Ps 19:7 ¶ The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul: the testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple. 8 The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart: the commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes. 9 The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring for ever: the judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. 10 More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. 11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward. 12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults. 13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression. 14 Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD, my strength, and my redeemer.

The great transgression is sinning against the great commandment. Thou shalt love the lord thy God with all thy heart soul mind and strength.

     B. Love

          1. He that backbiteth not with his tongue,  = slanders, speaks evil of his neighbor.

          2. nor doeth evil to his neighbour, - evil = unpleasentness, bad

Le 6:2 If a soul sin, and commit a trespass against the LORD, and lie unto his neighbour in that which was delivered him to keep, or in fellowship, or in a thing taken away by violence, or hath deceived his neighbour;

Ex 22:26 If thou at all take thy neighbour's raiment to pledge, thou shalt deliver it unto him by that the sun goeth down:

          3. nor taketh up a reproach against his neighbour. Reproach = scorn, shame, to taunt 2Sam 16:5-14

     C. Honor

          * In whose eyes a vile person is contemned; but he honoureth them that fear the LORD.

Who do we bestow honour on and who do we despise or hold in contempt? We had better honor who God honors and despise who God Despises.

     D. Contentment

          1. He that sweareth to his own hurt, and changeth not.

Judges 11:35 The day of proken promises are upon us. Contracts are no longer honored let alone a handshake.

Do we keep our word?

          2. He that putteth not out his money to usury, Seeking intrest for borrowed money.

Mt 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also.

Lu 6:29 And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloke forbid not to take thy coat also.

          3. nor taketh reward against the innocent. - reward = bribe

He that doeth these things shall never be moved.

Mt 7:24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand: 27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
